چکیده

We report on the detection of a large amplification of the flux density of PSR B0655+64 at 325 MHz (a factor of ∼ 43) that lasted about one hour. To the best of our knowledge such a large amplification has not been reported before. The phenomenon is restricted to a very narrow bandwidth (50 % decorrelation half-width of 3.6 ± 0.4 MHz). The decorrelation bandwidth and characteristic time scale of the variation are in agreement with the values expected for diffractive interstellar scintillation. However, the observed amplification of the flux density of PSR B0655+64 is rather large. The observations suggest that amplifications of a factor up to 8 are not uncommon for PSR 0655+64 at 92 cm. The extreme flux density amplification of PSR 0655+64 might be explained in terms of caustics. We consider it unlikely that this event can be explained by intrinsic variability.

Giant pulses in Pulsar PSR B 0031 – 07

We report on observations of the recently detected (Kuzmin et al. 2004) giant pulses (GPs) from the pulsar PSR B0031–07 at 40 and 111 MHz. At 40 MHz the peak flux density of the strongest pulse is 1 100 Jy, which is 400 times as high as the peak flux density of the average pulse (AP). A pulse whose observed peak flux exceeded the peak of the AP by more than a factor of 200 is encountered approx...

Discovery of Radio Pulsations from the X-ray Pulsar J0205+6449 in Supernova Remnant 3c58 with the Green Bank Telescope

We report the discovery with the 100 m Green Bank Telescope of 65 ms radio pulsations from the X-ray pulsar J0205+6449 at the center of supernova remnant 3C58, making this possibly the youngest radio pulsar known. From our observations at frequencies of 820 and 1375 MHz, the free electron column density to PSR J0205+6449 is found to be 140.7± 0.3 cm−3 pc. The barycentric pulsar period P and Ṗ d...

Discovery of a Young, Energetic 70.5 Ms Pulsar Associated with the Tev Gamma-ray Source Hess J1837−069

We report the discovery of 70.5 ms pulsations from the X-ray source AX J1838.0−0655 using the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE ). PSR J1838−0655 is a rotation-powered pulsar with spin-down luminosity Ė = 5.5×10 ergs s, characteristic age τc ≡ P/2Ṗ = 23 kyr, and surface dipole magnetic field strength Bs = 1.9×10 12 G. It coincides with an unresolved INTEGRAL source and the extended TeV source H...

We present spectra of the white-dwarf companions of the radio pulsars 0655+64 and 0820+02. For the latter, we find a spectrum showing strong lines of hydrogen, i.e., that of a DA star. From modelling these lines, the mass of a white dwarf can, in principle, be determined accurately, thus leading to constraints on the evolution of the binary and the mass of the neutron star. Our present spectrum...

Heartbeat of the Mouse: a Young Radio Pulsar Associated with the Axisymmetric

We report the discovery of PSR J1747−2958, a radio pulsar with period P = 98 ms and dispersion measure DM = 101 cm−3 pc, in a deep observation with the Parkes telescope of the axially-symmetric “Mouse” radio nebula (G359.23−0.82). Timing measurements of the newly discovered pulsar reveal a characteristic age P/2Ṗ = 25 kyr and spin-down luminosity Ė = 2.5×1036 erg s−1. The pulsar (timing) positi...
